Rock Climbing for Beginners Courses 

Intro to Rock Climbing (1 Day)

Intro programs available on request any time during the season. Ideal for families or groups, these days are all about getting out for a new adventure! We'll visit one of many climbing areas near Banff, all of which have a short walking approach that allows for more time climbing.

What you can expect:

  • Climbing equipment introduction

  • Learn basic outdoor climbing techniques

  • Basic rope management - belaying and lowering on top rope climbs

  • Rappelling

  • Climb Climb Climb!

Intro to Rock Climbing (2 Day)

Two day course designed for those who are looking to make the transition from the gym to the outdoors, or just for anyone looking for an adventure! We will cover all the basics and ensure that you come away from the course with the knowledge to get out climbing on your own.

Topics covered:

  • Climbing equipment introduction

  • Outdoor climbing hazards and how to manage them

  • Tying in,  belaying and lowering systems for top rope climbing

  • Basic rope management

  • Top rope climbing anchors

  • Climbing movement and techniques

Intro to Traditional Climbing

Learn the basics of traditional climbing. This two day course will focus on placing your own gear in different typs of rock, natural anchors/protection such as trees and rock horns, building anchors, multipitch climbing systems.

​

What you can expect:

  • Basics of traditional climbing equipment - cams, nuts, hexes, etc.

  • Building traditional anchors

  • Multipitch systems/rope management for trad climbing

  • Assessing rock quality when placing gear

  • Strategies for trad climbing

Intro to Multipitch Climbing

Two day course designed for those who are comfortable lead climbing outdoors at single pitch crags and want to get onto some bigger objectives. We'll start with one day at a sport climbing crag where we'll introduce all the rope systems and climbing strategies involved in mutlipitch climbing. On the second day we'll get out and tackle one of the local multipitch routes.
